Minutes 26th Mar 2010
Wiki. Everyone has registered on the collaboration wiki.
Monsoon accounts. We all either have accounts or are in the process of setting them up (if you're not then let Rupert know!).
Schoof and Hindmarsh paper. We now all have a complete understanding of the L1/L2 vertically integrated model. Err... well, we think we know how to implement it anyway. Some combination of Tony, Steph, Sarah and Gethin intend to implement the model in glam in the next couple of weeks, and perhaps Tony will make a poster for EGU based on it.
Paper writing - now that the group is somewhat larger we can expect several papers over the coming years. We agreed that it is in general a good idea for us to share drafts with each other as well as with Tony. By reviewing each others work we can keep in good touch with the research we are all doing, and also reduce the Tony's workload slightly.
Monsoon feasibility: update from Gethin - not yet clear how big a job installing petsc will be.
Tony told us a bit about the meeting in Bern. Some interesting talks, in particular Andreas has made good progress recently with application of 1d grounding line and calving modelling to Greenland outlet glaciers.
Steph reported on progress with CHOMBO. Results are showing good grounding line mobility with either higher resolution everywhere or higher resolution near the grounding line through adaptivity. CHOMBO development will largely replace current GLIDE solvers.
We discussed the possibility of simple nested gridding using GLIMMER without CHOMBO. It was felt that a one way flow of information up the patch hierarchy should suffice, so either have seperate runs at different resolutions (lowest first then higher runs using forcing from the lower res runs) or implement some simple coupling: glue runs together with scripts or make use of GLIMMERs capability for multiple ice sheet instances.
Specific actions
- Steph to transfer main BISMG wiki pages to collaboration twiki, then everyone to move their own pages over.
- Rupert and Vicky to verify Steph's formulation for the L1/L2 model (done already).
- Some combination of Tony, Steph, Sarah and Gethin intend to implement the model in glam.
